Creating a server help

A friend and I recently got Gmod10, and we want to play together on our own little temporary servers so we can set the rules. The problem is that he can't connect to my server because it says "server not responding" and same goes for me if he creates one. I have sv_lan set to 0, so I'm thinking my internet is blocking others from connecting to my PC. How would I go about fixing this?

Whoever is running the server has to allow access to the correct ports. Your firewall maybe blocking them; You need to find out what ports the game uses and allow them through. If you connect through a router, you also have to port-forward the above to your computer. There are probably detailed HOWTOs on the net somewhere.

I believe port 27015 is the one you have to forward. If you search around on www.fpsbanana.com there's some tutorials on setting up a dedicated server.
