I'm going to probably not be playing COD as much for the next month because of my connection trouble. I'm really starting to get sick and tired of it. I'll still be on the forums, but COD isn't so much fun when you lag every 30 seconds.

well I'll be back at school in a month so I've got that temporary fix to look forward to. And besides this gives me even more extra time to learn Japanese :D

Time to contact the provider and complain about something they won't fix. But maybe if you do they will look into it and someone on your node is abusing the service....

I believe his issue is trying to use a connection of less than 1mb and most of the time sharing that connection

How about a new service provider. There must be other providers with competitive prices and better connections

There is ComCast, but that's convincing my parents my parents to switch as well as pay $40/month. And since I'm only home a few months out of the year it doesn't seem worth it to me.

Is it just lag in game?? I had and issue in May and they had to replace the line and switches from the pole to the box on the house. Didnt think they were all that old as I had the internet installed in 2004 and they ran all new lines then -- service guy said 5 years is a long service time for the lines and that they replace them all the time.

The weird thing was I would lag and CI in COD 4 but really didnt notice it for just surfing the net.

Don't think it's your connection dude, think it's your computer. Why don't you take the time to reformat your computer and see if it clears up your problem.

I may just do that, but I need a drive I can back stuff up on, which I don't have at the moment. I may be able to do it in a few weeks when a friend of mine is in town. I left an old HDD of mine at his house the last time I reformatted and forgot to bring it back. :(

Well we have DSL so it may be different if you have cable. But if it's the same that could be an issue because our cables were put in like 8 or 9 years ago when my parents had the house worked on. I don't think they've been replaced ever since then.

Dont know about DSL, but would be worth a try anyway... When you aren't wireless do you still have the lag issues is the real question. If you have the ability to try it that way, I would for at least a few hrs and see if the lag is still the same, if it is then you know it is at least in part due to the connection.

I've used my wireless on the first floor before because it was giving me really bad lag issues one day. The first floor is where the router is and I keep my PC in the basement. Anyways the connection was definitely better. So I'd imagine that if I could use ethernet cables the connection would be far more stable. However, I doubt my mom would approve of probably some 50-75ft of cable needed to reach the upstairs. It may even need 100 ft if it were to stay up against the walls in the house.

Quitter! <3

That's alright, I've been playing less myself. Been too busy with work and whatnot, and since I'm not on the server as much its been less of a party anyways. :D

Drill into the drywall ;p She'll never know. You could also try the Ethernet over Powerlines adapters that they sell. You won't get full 100Mbps type connections for file transfers but for internet, the bandwidth you'd get, especially for a DSL connection, would be more than sufficient.

Here's a link to the product in case you're not sure what I'm talking about:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122097

It's not the ideal setup but it's meant for use in situations exactly like yours where wireless internet isn't cutting it. But before you purchase something like this I highly suggest you plug directly into your router with an ethernet cable and game for a solid hour or two to make sure it's your internet/wireless connection that's causing you to lag and not your computer. If you don't want to purchase from Newegg, I've seen these at Best Buy as well.

If you do go for Comcast be sure to check local retail stores (ie Best Buy, Walmart, Target etc). They do retail only sales at places like that. I suggest going to the store and seeing what they are offering, once you find the best deal call in. Try and see if they'll give you a better deal over the phone then.

yeah me and my parents thought about switching to ComCast for cable a while ago and we were talking to em at Abt. and it looks like I'm back playing even though I still get horrible lag. About three weeks to go!
