Can someone explain to me why I have to fill out a form saying I don't want to donate to (insert name of charitable organization here)? If I don't want to voluntarily contribute to a charity, why should I have to _do_ anything? But no, I am required to fill out a form and turn it saying I'm a heartless bastard. Thanks boss.

Turn it in saying you don't want to donate because you didn't get a big enough raise.

Just use the excuse of economic trials and tribulations, then you can't feel guilty

I don't actually feel guilty. Strong arm tactics just piss me off. I hate the fact that they track whether or not I've turned in a form that is supposed to be for a voluntary donation.

lol the united way is a bunch of bullies! a place i worked at a while back had the yearly united way drive and had a sign up sheet right next to where you clocked in. then while we were working they would call your name out and ask if you wanted to sign up if you haven't already. Of course everyone looks up when someone calls your name out from across the room. I never did donate because at that time i was the one needing donations.

They do the same thing at my workplace. It's just a stats thing for them. I'm sure they gather up the data and run around showing government or news agengies that every employee responds to charity requests. It benefits them somehow or why push so hard to get everyone to respond.

I'm sure they've done studies that proved that people where more likely to donate if required to fill out a form than if given the choice to fill out a form.

of course it is. its like at church. a church with a donation box at the front will get no money. however if in the middle of the sermon they have their people pass the basket around infront of everyone the shame sets in and the cash comes out. hahaha

The official reason they keep track of who's turned in forms is, "They want to make sure everyone had a chance to donate." Hm.. didn't know that the <insert charitable org name here> would turn my money down if I wanted to donate outside of work. It's all a lot of BS.

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity."
Probably some HR person that has to justify their existence. Or to paraphrase another quote: You may be paranoid, but that doesn't mean no one is out to get you, but they're probably just covering their own asses.

What I'm betting is that your company gets some form of tax break as in they take it out of your pay, pool it, give it, receive tax reprieve. Therefore they:
1) Need a way to keep track of who is giving
2) Need to make sure that employees don't go outside the system, more than likely via an agreement with whatever charitable organization you want to give to.
3) Make you fill out a stupid form.

Yeah, they can do the first two without doing the third. Make the forums readily available so you can do payroll deduct for your donation, but there is no need to keep track of people who don't want to donate.

Yeah I work retail. Every month we try and raise money for whatever...Breast Cancer, MDA, etc. and most of the money is from people checking out and rounding up to the nearest dollar. Well...sometimes the manager gets a hair up his ass and will round up employees who check out without asking them if they want to...so much for voluntary asshole :icon_upyours:

I am all for helping those less fortunate than me.
I've pulled over to help people with a flat tire before (no they were not hot women.)
I regularly do tithing at church (which is a personal descision not an influenced one. You would have to know my family to know what i'm talking bout there. :P) when i am able to. LIke right now i have no job so i have to take a break from it until i get a steady income again.
I am NOT for charity organizations. I think they are rude, crude, hostile people. They make insurance companies seem like saints.
Trying to guilt people into donations or forcing them into an awkward situation (like telling your boss you wont donate) is not doing any good in the world. If nothing else it will just fuel's people desire to NOT help more. :icon_upyours:
