View Full Version : My router is blocking photobucket?

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Ever since I set up this router at home, NONE of my computers can access photobucket. Normally, not a huge loss, but I know a lot of people use it for hosting pictures as opposed to imageshack (which works just fine). If I bypass the router and go straight to the modem, it works PERFECTLY.

I've researched as much as I can and everything I can find is people who have set up blocks, but I can't find another person who's router is completely factory and still blocking sites.

I've done a master reset on the router and STILL I can't get to photobucket. WTF. Really. I'm at the end of my rope over here. The thing that gets me is that this kind of stuff is what I do! I've been troubleshooting computers and networks for YEARS and this one just has me stumped.

Its not based on the computer. I have two hooked up right now, and they are identical. If I bring someone's laptop into my work shop and hook it up, same result. it HAS to be the router.

You may need to unblock the specific port. I am not fully aware of how photobucket works but I am fairly versed in router (pain in the butt).
As kock asked first we need to know which router you have.

Linksys WRT54GS. Same type of router I've always used, and I've never had this problem. I've gone though all the settings in the router, its as open and free as it can be asside from making one of my comptuers DMZ, but I don't want to do that.

Im am going to asume you are the administrator of the router, Does it block the site entirely or just the file transfers?
Did you set up any site or IP restrictions for your family?

Oh, and I know that this is stupid but I have made this mistake a zillion times. Did you remember to reset the router to the default settings just in case?

Is there any sort of whitelist/blacklist settings in the router? Any specific sites blocked?

Yes, reset. Yes, admin. Yes, there are settings for blacklists, but there's nothing in there. It blocks the entire site. If I go to www.photobucket.com it won't load at all. I can ping it & DNS it...but forget bowsing to it.

Well if you can ping it, then most likely it's a DNS issue. Have you tried entering something other than the default DNS? My personal favorties are 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1

No, it'll DNS it. So the DNS isn't an issue. Its just fucking bizare that is the ONE site.

Are you able to go here: http://209.17.70.11
My only suggestion would be to update the firmware if you haven't already done so. Actually no that's a lie, my #1 suggestion is to buy a non-Linksys router.

I would still be 100% sure with your DNS issues (especially if you can navigate to Photobucket with the link above), but if you haven't done a firmware upgrade I'd definitely check that as well.

You can see here that other people are having similar issues with that same router. Linksys routers suck. Every single one I've ever used was a piece of garbage.

Well I'll be a SoB. You were right afterall kock.

After reflashing the firmware (still no fix), I changed the DNS on my local area config to the actual Cox DNS servers rather than 192.168.1.1 (which is what linksys does by default for DHCP and I had it set that way in my manual configuration). Voila. Works. Stupid stupid problem to have.

Thx for the help dudes.
